I'm writing this from the plane ride home, flying out of San Jose back into Phoenix.
It was a good trip. If I failed to mention it before, this weekend was Rob's 20 year reunion at RLS high school in Pebble Beach, California. We flew out Thursday after work. Our flight was at seven thirty and was fairly uneventful. I took a Xan@x of course so it was much better than normal.
We got into the San Jose airport, grabbed the luggage and headed out to find the shuttle bus that would bring us to the rental car place. We just missed the bus that was at the stop so we got in line for the next one. About five minutes later we turned around and were shocked to discover about 70 people in line behind us. No joke!
We got a Chevy Pacifica and routed through the hell that is getting back through the airport onto the freeway and onward about an hour or so to Rob's parent's house in Salinas. By the time we got there it was around eleven thirty and I was exhausted! I snagged a half a piece of garlic bread out of the fridge, hugged my FIL and hit the hide-a-bed. I slept fitfully as I usually do in a place where I can't get white noise, but it wasn't that bad. Woke up with a stiff neck and heavy eyes but I had to get up as my MIL had booked me a hair appt at nine thirty and I had to keep it if I wanted to get rid of the frizz that was my hair before the reunion.
Got dressed and Rob and FIL headed out to get some stuff at Costco while MIL and I headed to the salon. MIL stayed in the car while I went in and got pampered. The ladies name was Lisa and she was super nice and I really liked the salon. Figures I finally find a hair place I love and it's in Salinas California! Hmph. So I got a bunch of hair chopped off, but I didn't get the highlights(Oh! I failed to mention that I dyed my hair brown on Wednesday night too!). I'll include a picture when I upload this tonight when I get home.), After that we met the boys back at the house and headed out to Soladad to pick up G'ma Laura at the nursing home to take her to lunch. The first place had a wait of 20 mins or so and since they had a doc's appt to get Laura too we settled for the little diner that we had taken G'ma Anne to once before. I broke my diet and had fried fish with curly fries. After a yummy meal we headed back to the house where FIL and Laura dropped us off so she could go to her appt.
We toyed with the idea of going up to camp but decided we would be too pressed for time so we would just stay with the IL's that night as well. We hung out with this mom for awhile and then got ready for the first night of the reunion.
This was to be the casual. There was a cocktail reception and there was supposed to be a buffet dinner but instead they just kept bringing out appetizers and filling up these two tables. It worked better I think because everyone was getting loose on beer and wine(or in Rob's case, Diet coke) so it was nicer just to stand around and pick at food while you moved around the room and mingled. Rob discovered a game room way better than he had ever had while going to school there with a foosball and pool table. We tried to play a game but it was determined that I sucked so we stopped.
It was a good night. Rob saw and talked with a lot of people he hasn't seen in twenty years...wow, it's hard to believe my husband is almost forty!!! Heh.
We headed home around eleven or so and hit the hay by eleven thirty. I slept until nine the next day so that was nice. Got a much better sleep than the night before. Saturday was a nice lazy day. I woke up, got a cup of coffee and went outside to sit with the IL's and chat. Rob and MIL cleaned out her laundry room and then her fridge while I reorganized her container drawer and then it was time to shower and get ready for the night ahead. This night was to be semi-formal. I wore the same thing I wore to Rob's Xmas party last year while Rob wore his card shirt and some dress slacks.
We got there and met up with Rob's old dorm mate Ing. Let me tell you it was like the boys were sixteen all over again. They met up like they never lost a beat. It was rather amusing to watch. Beer and wine were served again while everyone chatted for a half an hour before they took class pictures. Then it was off to the cafeteria for the buffet dinner.
The food was pretty good, I won't bore you with the details but I broke my diet yet again...I guess I should just say I'll be starting my diet back again on Monday. ;-)
After dinner there was supposed to be "dancing under the stars" but more people would rather stand around drinking wine and talking. We sat around talking to Rob's little circle of friends for a good while.
OH! I forgot to mention the lovely little drunk woman I had met earlier that night when the pictures were being taken. She had come up to me talking about how old she felt and then kind of wandered off. She came back up to me at the end of the night, clearly tipsy to say the least and said: "I saw you earlier!" all excited. "What was your name?" I told her and she said: "Oh My God! My name is Kelly tooooooo!!!!" I smiled and she continued: "I told you before how old I felt..."She paused and looked down at me. "because...you're pregnant right?"
YEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I closed my eyes for a moment, smiled as pleasantly as I could and shook my head.
To her credit she looked suitably mortified and apologized profusely. I nodded and said that it was okay. I told her that when you lose 90 pounds sometimes you are left with a pooch of extra skin as I rubbed my belly. She then switched into super overcompensation mode and gushed about how great that was that I had lost that much and asked if she could kiss me(???). Before I could respond she pulled me in and planted a kiss on my cheek. Thankfully her husband dragged her out of there a few minutes. later.
Man, if that doesn't help me get back on my fucking diet, I don't know what will!
After everything shut down around ten thirty a small group of us headed over to Ingmars Dorm(people were staying in the dorms rather than staying in hotels) to see what they looked like. After that we sat around said room and looked through the yearbook Ing had to see how much people had changed. It was fun. They were very nice people.
After many yawns from me(I couldn't help it! A couple of beers topped off by yummy food and I was out!) we all broke up and headed our separate ways. We drove through Carmel so Rob could see it again and then headed back to his parents house. We were in bed sleeping by one.
Woke up around seven thirty this morning and got ready. Drove to San Jose, dropped off the car and checked into the airport. I got some Chinese food and we settled in at the gate.
That brings us to where we are coming into our decent now in Phoenix. I will have to shut this down shortly but can I just ask why is it that when the Captain announces we will be landing soon, 7000 people get up to use the bathroom? The flight was only an hour and a half people how much water/coffee/beer could you have drunk??? Sorry.
There was an interesting question posed to us this weekend.
Rob has been sick of his job for many months now and is currently looking for something new. He has also asked me how I might feel about moving out of Arizona. I guess I don't really care much either way other than having to leave my friends behind but it really isn't that much of a trip to visit...
Well Rob's parents asked us if we were considering moving to Cali, more specifically were we thinking of moving anywhere near his grandparents camp...meaning if we were, they would hold off on renting it out and let us rent it.
This has planted lots of seeds in our heads. See, the camp is in Carmel Valley...a place where houses are starting at 1.5 million for a 1 bed 1 bath house. And it is absolutely gorgeous down there. We have stayed at the camp many times and we love it there. Rob stayed there quite often when he was growing up so he would love it there for sure. I don't know. It's a very tempting offer. The deciding factor would be if we could get decent jobs there where the commute wouldn't be an absolute bitch.
I think it was sitting outside this weekend in seventy degree weather sipping coffee and smoking cigs that convinced me I could totally live in that climate no problem! Especially in the gorgeous landscape around the cabin. Definitely something to think about. I know his parents would love to have him around all the time...which can be good and bad. I kind of like having him all to myself. :-)
--back at home.
We are home now. Not unpacked but finally relaxing.
Rob is outside talking to his parents right now hopefully about the cabin...It has really got us quite excited in just the last day. If we could sell this house to rent the cabin at a reasonable price, we could move to California DEBT FREE! That is a LOT to us seeing as one of our credit card payments will soon rival our house payment. Plus I like the idea of a new start. We love the place and we are familiar with it so it's not like we don't know all the quirks and such.
Okay, I'm going to post this but I will come back and post pics..
